Message from the Captain!
Ahoy ... uh ... hello? I know it’s been a while since I’ve written. To be honest, I have been at a loss lately for any "words of wisdom." Those of you who know me realize that this is in direct contrast to my typical prolific pontificating. |

But today I feel compelled to share my thoughts on the crisis we are facing in our economy and possibly even uncover a silver lining to the whole situation.
The reality is that today’s boat market is made up mostly of sellers and relatively few buyers. Buyers are taking advantage of the best deals in decades, with many snapping up the boat of their dreams at a rock bottom price. Many boat owners seem willing to do almost anything to sell their boats. Some of you may be disturbed by the frankness of these observations, but I will leave the "BS" for the competition. Lots of people tell you what you want to hear, I’m telling you the truth.
At The Houseboat Store, we are committed to the future of the boating industry and are doing the best we can to keep our heads above water. The way I see it, the most important thing is to encourage boaters to do what they love, and that is to get out there and enjoy the lake! Take a few friends along, while you’re at it. Show them how much joy boating brings to the family and encourage them to check into just how affordable owning a boat can be.
Here in the South, there is still plenty of gorgeous fall weather to be enjoyed. Heck, there simply isn’t a better way to take in the blue skies and brilliant foliage of autumn than from the openness of a boat. And, during these tumultuous times, the sense of serenity the lake provides is a true blessing. Communing with friends and family on the water actually restores my confidence that every rough patch must come to an end and, as such, all this gloom and doom is only temporary.

Yet, I admit that the absence of October’s usual BOATERS gets to me sometimes ... which is why I’m saying, "Come on folks! Get in the car and come back to the lake! Being on the water will flat cheer you up and, if you bring along a couple of friends, it will spread the joy that much further."
As most of you know, I can get a little long winded. That being said, there are a just couple more short points that I need to mention.
The first is that the time to winterize your boat is rapidly approaching. If you really are finished using your boat for the season, there is no reason to delay this essential maintenance. Call our Service Department at 770.503.6011 to get it done. If you are still using your boat, it’s a good idea to go ahead and reserve an appointment. Don’t wait until you see that first freeze on the 5-day forecast, because that is when we are so inundated, it’s difficult to get to everyone. Every year, Old Man Winter sneaks up on procrastinating boaters and hands them a load problems that none of us needs. Plan ahead, and you will have nothing to worry about.
Secondly, don’t forget about our Monthly Service Program for houseboats and cruisers. For only $100 a month, our service crew will visit your boat and keep everything in working order. We’ll make sure your boat is always ready to go and that it springs no surprises on you when you’re ready to use it. Call Ryan at 770.614.0000 for all the details. This really is a great program and very affordable.
Lastly, for the big guys out there, the Houseboat Handyman Program is a MUST! Our resident expert Ron Topa can take care of just about anything you can come up with to spruce up your boat. Ron is extremely meticulous, fair and (for a limited time) on SALE! We are taking 20% OFF the cost of Ron’s labor for all houseboat improvements, including changing of rope lighting, repair of gel-coating on roofs, upgrading appliances, cleaning/replacing plumbing lines and so much more! Nobody works harder, smarter, neater or faster than Ron, and he is also available for work at Allatoona, Hartwell, Thurmond and the Tennessee River. Give us a call at 770.614.0000 and let us know what you need. We will get it done.
As always, thanks for your support, and let’s all pull together to work through these turbulent times. Brighter days are closer than you think. |
Until next time,
Captain Dean and crew at THBS
