Message from the Captain!

I think it was Groucho Marx who once said, "Time flies like the wind. Fruit flies like bananas." I couldn’t agree more, as this summer has flown by faster than a Chris-Craft through glassy morning waters!

I think time also flies when you’re busy, which I am happy to report I (we) have been! Although reports of the lake are still largely negative, business is holding its own. Smart folks are taking advantage of the great deals on both houseboats and fiberglass models.

As I’ve mentioned before, the lake level being down makes for a host of new and expanded beaches available. It seems as if more people have started to realize that and are taking advantage of the drought’s silver lining.

I’ve been searching out those silver linings in other areas of my life, as well. It’s so easy to slip into a funk when the economy is slow. I find it helps me to take the time to focus on all the blessings in my life … family, friends, gas dropping below $4 a gallon. Recessions are like droughts, if you think about it. They never last forever. If we can just keep our chins up, all will return to normal ... sooner than later, if we’re lucky.

As you know, the lake is an essential part of my keeping a good attitude. Whether high or low, just being on its waters restores my soul. I feel sorry for all the people who have stayed away this summer, because those of us who are enjoying Lake Lanier are having as good a time this year as any. And it’s not too late to join us! If you have a boat, why not take it out this weekend? We’d love to see you.
